Pipe wrenches, spanners, adjustable wrenches, slugging wrenches and combination pliers must carry the ISI Mark from 1 October 2026 under the Hand Tools QCO.

Hand Tools QCO: nine spanners, wrenches and pliers in force

The nine hand tools under the Hand Tools (Quality Control) Order, 2025 — pipe wrenches, open-jaw and ring spanners, adjustable wrenches, chain pipe wrenches, slugging wrenches and combination pliers — appear on BIS's enforcement list from 1 October 2026.

Who is affected

Hand-tool manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers. Micro and small Indian manufacturers have later dates under the order; imports and large or medium manufacturers do not.

What to do

  • Stop selling or displaying unmarked covered tools, and verify supplier licences on the BIS Care app.
