Non-ISI helmets seized in Nagpur under Two Wheeler Helmet QCO
After a complaint, the Bureau of Indian Standards searched DJ Helmet Shop at Kalpana Complex, Nari Ring Road, Kapil Nagar, Nagpur, on 14 July 2026. Officials recovered 38 two-wheeler helmets without the mandatory ISI mark: 27 branded RISHAB, nine branded MAS, and one each of STORM and OCEAN.
The seizure was made for breach of the Two Wheeler Helmet (Quality Control) Order, 2020 (S.O. 4252(E) dated 26 November 2020), read with Sections 17(1) and 17(3) of the BIS Act, 2016. The helmets are being held as evidence, and BIS has started further action against the shop.
Under the QCO, two-wheeler helmets cannot be sold without a BIS licence and the ISI mark. BIS asked buyers to check licence validity in the BIS Care app or on the BIS website before buying any product under mandatory certification.
Who is affected
Helmet retailers, roadside and online sellers, and helmet manufacturers and importers.
What to do
- Sell only helmets with a genuine ISI mark and a CM/L number you can verify in the BIS Care app.
- Manufacturers and importers: hold a valid BIS licence covering every brand name you sell, including private labels.
