Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026 suspends five Schedule 1 entries

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026 as S.O. 3300(E), dated 20 June 2026 and published in the Gazette of India on 22 June 2026. It amends the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 (S.O. 3716(E) of 29 August 2024) and takes effect on publication.

Enforcement of the Indian Standards at serial numbers 23 and 129 of Schedule 1 will not be operative for three years from the date of Gazette publication. Enforcement of the standards at serial numbers 51, 52 and 53 of Schedule 1 is suspended up to 31 March 2027.

The amendment does not delete these standards from the order; it only pauses enforcement. The Ministry of Steel published it on its QCO page together with a separate amendment for cross recessed screws issued the same day.

Who is affected

Steel producers, importers and users of the steel grades listed at serial numbers 23, 51, 52, 53 and 129 of Schedule 1 of the 2024 steel QCO.

What to do

  • Check Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 to see whether your IS standards are at serial 23, 51, 52, 53 or 129.
  • If you rely on the 31 March 2027 relief for entries 51–53, plan BIS licensing or alternative supply before that date.
  • Keep a copy of S.O. 3300(E) with import documents for customs clearance of affected grades.
