Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026 notified by the Ministry of Steel
The Ministry of Steel notified the Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026 as S.O. 3298(E), dated 20 June 2026 and published in the Gazette of India on 22 June 2026. It amends the Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025, which was issued as S.O. 3927(E) on 27 August 2025.
Under the amendment, enforcement of the Indian Standards listed at serial numbers 12, 13 and 14 of that order will not be operative for three years from the date of Gazette publication. The other screw standards in the order are unaffected.
The Ministry's QCO page also lists an earlier exemption from QCO compliance for certain cross recessed screw consignments, posted in January 2026.
Who is affected
Manufacturers, importers and buyers of cross recessed screws, especially those dealing in the products at serial numbers 12–14 of the order.
What to do
- Check the table of the Cross Recessed Screws (Quality Control) Order, 2025 to see which standards sit at serial numbers 12, 13 and 14.
- Continue BIS certification for all other screw standards in the order — they remain enforceable.
- Treat the three-year relief as time to certify, not a permanent exemption.
