Unregistered LED TVs and speakers seized from Coimbatore assembly unit
The Coimbatore Branch Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards searched M/s Grace Lazerjet Technologies (brand Eye Plus) in Coimbatore on 17 June 2026, after receiving credible information. The unit was storing and selling LED televisions and Bluetooth speakers without a valid BIS registration.
Officials seized 24 televisions and 41 Bluetooth speakers of several models, worth about ₹17 lakh. Both products fall under the Compulsory Registration Scheme, so each model needs a BIS Registration (R-) number and the Standard Mark before sale. BIS said it will act under the BIS Act, 2016. For a first offence, the penalty is up to two years' imprisonment or a fine of at least ₹2 lakh, rising to ten times the value of the goods, or both.
BIS reminded the public that a registration can be checked in the BIS Care app by entering the R-number printed on the product. It also warned that using expired licences or misleadingly claiming BIS certification will lead to penal action.
Who is affected
Electronics assemblers, private-label brands, importers and retailers of TVs, speakers and other CRS-covered electronics.
What to do
- Register each model (including private-label variants) under CRS before sale, and print the R-number and Standard Mark on the product.
- Check that registrations have not lapsed. Selling under an expired registration counts as a violation.
