DPIIT has notified the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2026 as S.O. 1319(E), dated 11 March 2026 and published in the Gazette of India on 13 March 2026. It supersedes the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2025 and covers 17 Indian Standards, all requiring the ISI Mark under a BIS licence (Scheme-I).
Seven products apply with immediate effect for all enterprises: welded and extruded irrigation tubes (IS 7092 Parts 1 and 2), EC-grade aluminium rod (IS 5484), pharmaceutical packaging foil (IS 16011), aluminium composite panels (IS 17682), corrugated sheet (IS 1254) and aerospace forging stock (IS 7902).
Ten wrought products — bars, rods and sections (IS 733), forgings (IS 734), plate (IS 736), sheet and strip (IS 737), wire (IS 739), rivet stock (IS 740), extruded tubes (IS 1285), electrical wire (IS 2067), utensil-grade aluminium (IS 21) and electrical conductors (IS 5082) — apply from 1 December 2026 for general enterprises, 1 March 2027 for small and 1 June 2027 for micro enterprises.
Exports are exempt, and aluminium product manufacturers may import up to 200 kg a year for R&D, provided it is not sold, is scrapped, and year-wise records are given to the Government on signed letterhead.
Who is affected
Aluminium producers, rollers and extruders, importers of aluminium semis, and downstream users such as utensil, cable, panel and packaging manufacturers.
What to do
- Identify which of the 17 standards your products or purchases fall under and whether they are immediate or phased.
- Check your MSME (Udyam) category to know whether 1 December 2026, 1 March 2027 or 1 June 2027 applies.
- Ask overseas and domestic suppliers of wrought aluminium for their BIS licence numbers before the December deadline.
