Uncertified plywood and flush doors seized in Guwahati enforcement raid

The Guwahati Branch Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards raided M/s Pushpa Enterprise in Manpara, Guwahati, on 8 April 2026, after a tip-off and investigation. Officials found substandard plywood, concrete shuttering plywood, block boards and flush doors being stored and sold. They seized 3,533 items carrying spurious or unauthorised ISI marks.

These products need BIS certification under IS 303:2024 (plywood), IS 1659:2004 (block boards), IS 4990:2024 (concrete shuttering plywood) and IS 2202 (Part 1):2023 (wooden flush door shutters). BIS is acting under Sections 17(1) and 17(3) of the BIS Act, 2016. The penalty is up to two years' imprisonment or a fine of at least ₹2 lakh, or both.

BIS asked the public to report misuse of the ISI mark to its Guwahati office (ghbo@bis.gov.in) and said informants' identities will be kept confidential. Plywood and flush doors have been a recurring target: BIS Ahmedabad seized spurious ISI-marked plywood and flush doors in Banaskantha district on 22 May 2026.

Who is affected
