BIS consults industry on draft amendments to kitchenware standards IS 14756, IS 17569 and IS 17790
The BIS Chennai Branch Office held a Manak Manthan, reported by PIB on 24 September 2025, on wide-circulation drafts of amendments to three household product standards prepared by sectional committee MED 33.
The drafts were MED 33 (28558) for insulated containers for food storage (IS 17569), MED 33 (28570) for stainless steel utensils (IS 14756) and MED 33 (28589) for insulated flasks for domestic use (IS 17790). BIS explained the proposed technical requirements, specifications and test methods. About 55 participants from industry, manufacturers and testing labs commented on the drafts.
Stainless steel utensils under IS 14756 are already subject to compulsory certification, so the final amendments will affect ISI licensees once published and brought into force. A later BIS marking fee amendment of 2 January 2026 substituted the schedule entry for IS 14756 : 2024.
Who is affected
Manufacturers and importers of stainless steel utensils, insulated flasks and insulated food containers, and testing laboratories.
